Third Chapter of 'Zombie Apocalypse Story'

Chapter 3

I looked out the window; the moonlit sky was shining bright, full of stars. I looked over at Jack. His cheeks were stained with tears. His hand was over his heart and the other stroking Zoe’s hair. I heard him whispering “Wake up, baby. Come on, you gotta wake up.” He didn’t seem to notice that I was awake. “Please, wake up. Prove Iris wrong. Please, just wake up.” I decided not to talk, just to listen. “I know you’re still alive. Just please, wake up.” He stroked her face, His thumb slowly feeling her soft lips. He kissed her on the forehead. “Come on, Precious needs you. She needs us both. Please.”

He reached into his bag and brought out a whisky bottle. He took a long swig and put his hand on his forehead. “I can’t live without you, baby.” He said, “Please wake up, baby.” He put his hand on her knee and said, softly, “All you need to do is wake up. Nothing else. Iris and I can help you around. You don’t need to worry. Just please wake up.” I badly wanted to talk to him, to reassure him. But they needed this moment for themselves; to forget everything. Just for them to be together.

Second Chapter of 'Zombie Apocalypse Story'

Chapter 2

I couldn’t see Robbie anywhere so I left. When I opened the school gate, I was attacked by a couple. They screamed.
“I’m not a zombie! I’m alive! Please don’t kill me!” I pleaded. They got off me and gave me a quick glance. “Oh, sorry. We get quite paranoid. Where are you heading?” They asked. I took a minute to see who they were. There was a middle aged man, maybe 35? He had short, black hair and he was wearing a mucky, flannel shirt with jeans. And there was a woman, also middle aged. I think they were a couple. She had a ponytail of long brown hair and she was wearing leggings and a graphic t-shirt.
“I don’t know. I’m looking for my son” I replied.
“Well, you can come with us. We’re heading south. All the kids are being taken down south.”
“Oh, thank you, so much for telling me!”
“It's fine, we have a car so we can go quickly. What’s your name?” They asked.
“I’m Iris, how about you guys?”
“I’m Jack and that’s Zoe.”
“Nice to meet you! Anyway, let’s go,” said Zoe. We started to walk to the car when a man jumped out of nowhere. Jack grabbed an axe from his back and hacked him in the stomach. I was taken aback that he was so experienced in killing. “Um... How did you do...? Never mind.” We got in the car and drove for an hour.

“So, where were you guys before this?” I asked.
“We were picking up Precious. But then a teacher said all children were being sent south. How about you?”
“Just at home, waiting for Robbie to come home. Nothing interesting. I was knitting but then I got a call from Robbie. He was really scared. I hope he’s being brave. He usually is.” I began to weep. Zoe put her hand on my back and said
“We all hope they’re being brave, honey. And they probably are.”
Then the car spluttered to a stop. “We’ve run out of gas!” He said, huffing under his breath.
“There should be a gas station nearby, hopefully,” said Zoe. I took a gulp from my bottle and evaluated the situation. I only had 3 chocolate bars, 2 apples, 2 bottles of water, 1 pencil and notebook and a knife. No gas.

“I guess we’ll have to walk. We’ll figure it out!” I said, trying to be optimistic. Though all I was thinking about was finding Robbie.

We started trekking across the forest; a knife in hand, an axe in Jack’s and a bottle in Zoe’s. The knife was shaking in my sweaty hand. Every other minute, someone would turn to look for a zombie. “So, Iris, what was your life like before this?” Jack asked.
“Um... Well, I have one son, Robbie. He’s 10 years old. He’s my world. Everything I work for is for him; because of him. I work as a waitress in a bar. Unfortunately, I’m not treated very well, at all. But I want Robbie to have the best education. I hope I can find him.” I said, my eyes tearing up. Zoe patted me on the back, giving me a smile.
“It’s alright. We have a daughter called Precious. About the same age as Robbie. We’re going to get her now. Aren’t we, dear?”
“Yes. Maybe they’ve met! That would be great!”
“What did you guys do before this?” I asked.
“I am a lawyer and Zoe’s a doctor. We earned a lot of money too. We both love our jobs. We look forward to getting back to them after all this ends. Do you have any foo...?” He replied, before being cut off in horror. There stood a shadowed figure. He had a limp on his right leg. His face had a bloody gash in it. He was bruised and beaten. He fell to the ground. “Help me! Please!” He said, quietly and hoarsely.
“Oh my goodness! Get help!”
“Please...” His voice drifted.
“No, wait!” She knelt down and put her fingers to his neck. “He’s dead!” She sat and cried. Her head buried deep in her hands.
“He never got to live his life! He looks only 20 years old!” He suddenly sat up and began to chew on Zoe’s neck. “Zoe!” Jack yelled, he then dug his axe into the zombie’s head. It was too late. She was badly hurt. She could hardly walk as the gash on her neck was so large.
“We can deal with this. We can do this.” Jack said, trying to reassure himself.
“Jack, I think we need to leave her. She’s unconscious. I don’t think she’ll wake up.”
“No, we’re going to take her.” He said, determinedly.
“Jack,” I said calmly and I put my hand on his arm. He pulled away and shouted “No! We need to take her. We just need to wake her up!” He shook her gently, saying “Wake up, Babe. Come on! Please. Just wake up. Precious needs us.” He stopped shaking her and sat whispering “We can fix this, we can fix this.”
“Come on, we have to go.” He suddenly stood up and yelled “Stupid!” and he kicked the dead man, hard. He then picked up Zoe and said “She’ll wake up, I know she will.”
We began to walk through the forest again. Jack slumped over while walking. He looked very tired.
“Jack, we have to leave her. She isn’t going to wake up. You’re obviously tired.”
“No! I’ll do anything for her. She will wake up!” He yelled; tears falling with every step. I slowed down and walked beside him. He looked at me and stopped.
“She didn’t deserve this, Iris! Why did this have to happen?” He sobbed.
“I don’t know why this happened,” I said, calmly. I saw a hut in the distance. “Come on, let’s go there.” We went into the hut. I dropped my bag and sat on the floor. I laid my head down. Jack gently placed Zoe in the corner and copied what I did, next to her. He stroked her face and smiled.
“Goodnight, Jack.”
“Goodnight.”

I heard him whisper, “Goodnight, Zoe.”

First Chapter Of: 'Zombie Apocalypse Story'

Chapter 1

I never thought I would get this way. You would think that with all the bad influences that I would hate to even think about being like that. But everything’s changed; unfortunately, for some people.

“Robbie, come get your breakfast!” I yelled from the kitchen. In he came, running at full force. The smell of a cheap perfume, I had bought, lingered around him. It smelled of roses.
“Are you wearing my perfume?” I asked, chuckling.
“I just want to smell nice for Alicia. I’m gonna ask her out today.”
“Okay, but today we’ll go buy you some of your own ‘perfume’. But good idea. Hope it goes well!”
“Thanks! Wow; waffles! Thanks, Mum. You’re the best!” He said, grinning. He plopped down on a dining room chair and started to attack his breakfast; stuffing the food in forkful by forkful.
“Hurry up! You’re gonna be late for school!” He devoured the last bite and shuffled to get his bag. He grabbed his homework and shoved it in, then cuddled me in a warm embrace and left. “Bye Mum! Love you!”
2006, 19th July; the day he came into my life. Being a parent makes you appreciate life a lot more. It makes you feel immortal. I took him home and placed him in his crib. That night I didn’t sleep, I was too busy watching him sleep in case he stopped breathing. His father had left because he didn’t want a child. We were abandoned without the help of anyone. Robbie needed two parents but he only had me. I had always wondered what would have happened when Robbie moved out. Everyone always said that I was too good to him. I had had an awful childhood so I wanted to give Robbie all my love. And it was always returned. I was definitely going to help him with moving out. At least we were always together. We had all the time in the world. That’s what I thought.
I was watching the news when an urgent message emerged from the T.V. It said “Everyone stay inside, do not, repeat, do not go outside.” Robbie was still at school. It said to make a safety bag including a knife, food, water, a torch and other things. I gathered the necessities and put them next to the door. Then I got a phone call.
“Mum?”
“Robbie! What’s wrong?”
“There’s a man outside who’s twitching and bloody.”
“Oh. Honey, Stay inside. Oka...” I was cut off by screaming. I heard Robbie panting, heavily.
“Mummy! He’s inside. He’s eating Mrs Poter!” He only ever called me Mummy when he was frightened. Then the phone hung up.
“Robbie? Robbie!” I dropped the phone in shock. I needed to know what was happening and where he was. I picked up the bag, put it on my back and left, slamming the door behind me.

Our street no longer looked like our street. It was destroyed. With a knife in my hand, I walked down the road. I heard groaning behind me. I turned to see a deformed, bloody man about ten feet away from me. I panicked. This is what Robbie was talking about.
When I got to the school, it was a mess. Many bodies lying on the floor; so many bodies. Then someone grabbed my ankle. I screamed. “Please. Help me. Please,” someone said. They were badly hurt, it was Mrs Poter. I dragged her out of the heap of corpses. She then said “Please, kill me. I don’t want to live in this world.”
I was hesitant to kill her, as anyone should be. We had been best friends since Year 9 in high school. Ellen was always a great teacher to Robbie. “I don’t want to! Please, we can do this together!” I said, emotionally.
“Just do it! Do it!” She yelled. I dug the knife deep into her chest and once into her skull. I’ll never forget how awful it felt to kill someone, especially your best friend.

I remembered where Robbie’s class was because of Parent’s Evening. I got to the class and it was mortifying. Alicia was dead on the floor, a bite on her neck. I’m glad he wasn’t there; he would have been devastated.

My First Post

Hi. I'm Erin, though you probably read that in the description. I'm going to be posting chapters/paragraphs of my writing. All I ask, is that you don't hate on my work; if you don't like the post, leave my blog (so you won't feel the urge to post hate comments). I'll try to post two days a week, but no promises. I do have homework and revision (ugh) but I will try. Maybe I'll post once a day! (Not likely)

Goodbye, for now.
